Pompeii and Herculaneum
The archaeological area of Pompeii and Herculaneum is a photograph of the society and culture of a historical moment that has no equivalent in the world. The ancient cities were completely buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in August 79b.C..
Pompeii and Herculaneum were two very different cities: Herculaneum, seafarer and vacationer, was a vacation spot for the Roman élite. Pompeii flatter and in the interior was a prosperous city, large and inhabited by people who lived there all year round. The ideal would be to visit both, but consider the time to spend out before leaving: it takes about 4 hours to visit Herculaneum and at least 6 to visit Pompeii.
The distance by car between Villa Le Zagare and Pompeii is only 6km away. Herculaneum is 20km far.
Alternatively, catch our shuttle service (for a fee) departing from Villa Le Zagare to reach the entrance of the ruins. More details will be provided by the Reception Staff.
